Johnson City Water Conservation Alert as Repair Work Continues
All Johnson City residents and businesses are being urged to conserve water while repairs are being made to a major main.
Village water officials said the problem occurred in the area of North Broad Street and Oliver Street.
Some homes and businesses lost water on Friday morning. Supply issues continued in the neighborhood throughout the weekend.
Johnson City assistant water superintendent Dennis Anderson said an 18-inch line is being replaced as part of a major project that began a few weeks ago.
Anderson said water customers near the work site have experienced some periods without service. He said the village tries to alert those who will be affected by posting notices on doors or by issuing a public notice.
Village water department employees were working with workers from G. DeVincentis & Son Construction Company - the project contractor - as repair operations continued Monday afternoon.
Anderson said it's been "one of the most difficult projects" undertaken by the village to upgrade antiquated water and sewer lines. He said he expects the work on putting in new lines will be completed by June.
While the work is underway, North Broad Street south of Brocton Street will be open only for local traffic.
Johnson City residents will be advised when the water conservation notice has been lifted.
