Johnson City Parking Rule Signs Cause Confusion
Alternate-side parking rules in the village of Johnson City won't be enforced until next month, despite signs indicating the seasonal regulations are already in effect.
The village board recently changed the starting date for the regulations to December 1. For many years, the rules took effect on November 1.
Mayor Greg Deemie said new signs reflecting the revised law have been ordered.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, the mayor said the signs should be ready to be posted "in the next few days."
Deemie said the Johnson City alternate parking regulations now will be similar to those used in Binghamton.
The provisions are based on a 24-hour cycle, taking effect each day at 5 p.m. After that time, vehicles should be parked based on the date for the following day.
After 5 p.m. on even-numbered days, vehicles should be on the odd side of the street. After 5 p.m. on odd-numbered days, vehicles should be on the even side of the street.
For the first five days of December, police will issue warning tickets to violators.
The alternate side parking rules in Johnson City will be in effect through April 1.
