Johnson City Pagoda Renovations Nearing Completion

A project to restore the historic EJ Workers Pagoda in Johnson City should be finished within the next few weeks.

Village residents and officials had worked for years to obtain the money needed for the work on the mostly-ignored structure in the southeast corner of CFJ Park.

The pagoda was built as a unique design for a pumphouse near some of Endicott Johnson's biggest factories in the early 20th century.

Work on the renovations started shortly after Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo announced she had secured a $125,000 state grant for the project.

A new roof is being installed on the small structure, which sits across the street from a Walmart store and the recently-closed Gannett Central New York Production Facility.

The pagoda was relocated to its current spot in June 2008. The state provided $100,000 to move it just over 100 yards from its original location off CFJ Boulevard.

Display cases featuring historic information about the Endicott Johnson Shoe Company and the village are to be installed. A small patio with seating also is to be built.
