Construction is continuing on the first two-family Habitat for Humanity project in Broome County.

The duplex structure is being built on Spruce Street, just south of Harry L. Drive.

Watch the WNBF News video at the end of this article.

Habitat for Humanity acquired the property for the project in March 2024. The organization received its final approvals from the village last spring and construction work started at the site last summer.

Lateisha Judge-Ulrich, executive director of Broome County Habitat for Humanity, said she expects the work on the Spruce Street structure will be completed by the end of summer.

Electrical work was being completed inside the new house this week.

One family already has been selected to live in the duplex. A second family's application is being reviewed.

Construction on another Habitat for Humanity project in Johnson City was wrapped up recently. That two-story three-bedroom house was built on West Street.

Judge-Ulrich said the first residents may be able to move into that single-family home by May.

Some of the lumber that was used to build that house came from the 2023 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, which had been donated by a Vestal family.
