Johnson City House Fire Investigation
The cause of a fire inside a vacant two-family apartment house in the village of Johnson City is being investigated.
According to fire marshal Bob Blakeslee, the blaze at 127 Burbank Avenue was reported shortly after 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
The first police officers on the scene reported smoke was coming from the front of the two-and-a-half story building.
Firefighters entered the house through a rear door and located a small fire in the kitchen of the first-floor apartment. The fire was extinguished within a few minutes.
The apartment where the blaze occurred sustained smoke damage. Fire damage was confined to the kitchen area.
Firefighters were on the scene for less than an hour.
The Johnson City fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire. People with information about the blaze may contact the office at (607) 729-0428.
The Burbank Avenue house reportedly had been vacant since July. The property was sold to a new owner last month.
