Authorities say Robert Gallagher of Johnson City was arrested on Wednesday.

Village police say officers were sent to a residence on Broad Street to investigate a domestic disturbance.

Gallagher was accused of choking his wife and violating an order of protection that had been issued last month. He also allegedly took his wife's phone to prevent her from calling police.

Investigators say Gallagher was charged with first-degree criminal contempt, a felony. He also was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Gallagher was arraigned in Johnson City village court and sent to Broome County Jail.
