Binghamton Lands on List of Most Popular Sandwiches in the World

Founded in 2015 by a Croatian journalist and entrepreneur, TasteAtlas is an experiential travel guide for those looking for the best of the best in food from all around the globe. The items included in various TasteAtlas lists come from the reviews of food critics, and research into local articles about popular dishes.

Unlike websites such as Tripadvisor, TasteAtlas does not base its list on reviews from the average person but instead bases them on those who professionally study food as well as professional food critics. TasteAtlas has a team of 30 people who do deep research to put together its lists so that its readers will know where to get the best of the best food no matter where they travel.

In February, TasteAtlast released a list of the 100 Most Popular Sandwiches in the World, and right there among sandwiches from places such as the Pan-bagnat of Nice, France, the Bombay Sandwich of Mumbai, India, and the Yakisoba pan of Japan is the spiedie sandwich of Binghamton, New York!

The spiedie sandwich landed at number 100 on the TasteAtlas list of the top 100 sandwiches in the world and it received a rating of 4.6 stars.

TasteAtlas described the spiedie sandwich as being “a culinary icon of Binghamton, New York.” The publication goes on to explain to those in the world who don’t know what exactly our sandwich is as being cubes of marinated meat of chicken, lamb, or pork which is served on “an Italian roll or slices of white bread.”

TasteAtlas also noted that although the origins of the spiedie sandwich are unknown, it is a sandwich that is believed to have received help in becoming popularized in the 1940s by a man called Augustine Iacovelli “who was the owner of a restaurant called Augies" which was located in Endicott.
