Vestal’s New $7.5 Million Fire Station Rises During the Winter
Construction crews are continuing work on a new fire station just south of the Vestal Parkway.
The 15,000-square-foot facility is being built on a three-and-a-half acre site near the Kohl's and Target stores in the Parkway Plaza.
There's been a lot of activity at the construction site over the past couple of months despite occasional periods of snow and ice. No significant weather-related delays have been reported.
When the project is completed, the new station will become the Vestal Fire Department's Station 4. The current Station 4 is located a short distance northeast of the site on the Vestal Parkway.
The new facility will have about 15,000 square feet of space compared to the 9,000 square feet available in the old station, which was constructed in 1952.
The new station is rising where an American Legion clubhouse had been located for about 60 years.
Vestal voters had approved acquiring the property for $607,000. A second referendum authorizing the constructing of the new facility was approved just over a year ago.
