In collaboration with the New York State Women Veterans Advisory Committee, the department is spotlighting a statewide survey created specifically for Women Veterans. The goal? To better understand the services and support they need most, whether it’s healthcare, mental health care, employment, childcare, or education.

It Only Takes Two Minutes to Make a Difference

The survey is short, completely confidential, and takes less than two minutes to complete. It’s available now and will remain open through the end of 2025. Female Veterans across the Empire State are encouraged to visit this link and make their voices heard.

Real Feedback, Real Change

New York State Veterans’ Services Commissioner Viviana M. DeCohen says the department is fully committed to listening to Women Veterans and letting their lived experiences lead the way. “Their experiences matter,” she said. “This survey will help us better align our services with their important needs.”

Stories That Deserve to Be Heard

Dr. Nneka Bell, Chairwoman of the New York State Women Veterans Advisory Committee, added that too often, the stories of Women Veterans are overlooked. “This survey is not just a chance to be counted, it’s a chance to be understood,” she said. “The insights we gain will drive real, responsive change across New York State.”

Building a Stronger Support System

According to Joel Evans, Executive Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Veterans’ Services, every single response helps build a stronger, more equitable system of care. The input gathered will be used to improve programs and guide future policies.

The Weight They Carry Should Be Recognized

Ozias “Rosiey” Batista, the Women Veterans Coordinator for the state, pointed out that Women Veterans often face unique challenges in systems that weren’t designed with them in mind. “This survey is a powerful tool for change, helping us center their lived experiences and turn feedback into forward movement,” she said.

More Than a Survey, A Statement of Dignity

Dr. Lessie Branch, DVS Special Assistant for Community Engagement, sees the survey as much more than data collection. “This is not just data collection, this is dignity in action,” she said. “When Women Veterans speak, we listen.”

Advocating for Women Who Served

The New York State Women Veterans Advisory Committee plays a crucial role in advocating for Women Veterans statewide. Through this survey and beyond, they continue to guide and support the Department of Veterans’ Services as it works to create more inclusive and impactful policies.
