Scenic roadways. They are the heart of America. In my opinion, one of the best, most relaxing things to do is take a drive on a scenic road. Do you agree?

I have a few of my favorite scenic roadways, both in the United States and in Scotland  where my wife and I have traveled to a few times in our lifetime.

While driving a car in the United Kingdom can be a challenge - driving on the left side of the road, sitting on the right side seat of the car, shifting with your left hand and navigating a roundabout in the complete opposite direction from what it is in the United States, is certainly an adventure, but I loved it just the same. Many of the Scottish Highland roads were spectacular drives. Scenic for sure.

As far as the United States, my favorite scenic drives include:

The Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah Mountains of Virginia

Speaking of scenic roadways, in January of 2023, Reader's Digest magazine published an article of the 40 Most Scenic Drives In America. Interestingly enough, two of my favorites mentioned above, Route 66 and Skyline Drive both made the list.

I was disappointed to find that no scenic roadways in New York State or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania made the Readers Digest list. But, The Nature Seeker website lists 15 Incredible Scenic Drives in New York State.

One is not far from the Binghamton area, and I have to agree with this pick - Route 14 and Route 96A that runs along the west side of Seneca Lake. Beautiful views of the lake and countryside.

In Pennsylvania, I would have to vote for Route 6, which runs from the Ohio border in the west to the New York State border in the east, stretching 403 miles of amazing views and things to see and do.
