Summer Is Here And So Is Free Fresh Water Fishing Days

Ah, it's summertime. My favorite time of the year. Are you in the planning stages of taking some time off? We all need it, that's for sure. I have my vacation days set for the summer, and I'm ready to jump right into it!

And with all the great things about summer, one thing that is set to return in New York State is Free Freshwater Fishing Days. New York State Governor Kathy Hochul set aside 6 days in 2023 to give anglers (and wannabe anglers) the opportunity to fish for free.

The first two days were February 18th and 19th, and the next two day freshwater fishing weekend is coming up this weekend, June 24th and 25th. To round out the year, free fresh water fishing days will be on September 23rd and November 11th.

The June 24th and 25th dates, in my opinion, are the best of all the free days since it's right in the heart of the warm weather season. Now, you may say it's no big deal because you already have a fishing license.

But, maybe you know someone who you think might want to try out fishing, and learn that they really like it. It could be sort of a teaching/mentor moment for you! Show off your fishing skills to someone who might like to learn to fish.

And if you are looking for a good place to fish, the Broome County Parks may have the answer. Here's the deal:

Bring your fishing pole, rent a boat for free. That’s the deal at Broome County Parks this weekend as part of New York State’s Free Fishing Weekend. Any visitor that shows up to Nathaniel Cole, Dorchester Park, and Greenwood Park with their own fishing pole will be able to get a free hour-long boat rental. Rowboats, canoes, and paddle boats will be available as part of this deal Saturday and Sunday.
