Demolition crews have removed most of the sprawling Kirkwood facility used for decades by Link and L-3 for flight simulation projects.

The 50-acre site off Industrial Park Drive is being prepared for construction of a FedEx Ground distribution center.

Workers with Gorick Construction have been tearing down the former Link complex in recent weeks.

In addition to the demolition, crews have been doing extensive excavation work to level the site for the new building.

Plans call for a 456,000-square-foot single story facility to be built for use by FedEx Ground. Design work for the project has been done by Delta Engineers of Endwell.

Construction on the building is expected to get underway soon. The project is scheduled to be completed in about one year.
