New York State is funding efforts to promote the rich history of the Greater Binghamton area as a tourist destination.A workshop was held at Binghamton University February 6th to talk about the state Path Through History initiative.

Broome County Historian Gerald Smith says the Southern Tier faces a challenge in promoting its historic attractions since there isn't one big draw like there is in an area like Gettysburg.

The Southern Tier is one of ten regions in New York awarded a $10,000 grant for promoting tourism, education and economic development.
