Grandparent Scam Resurfaces in Vestal
Vestal Police are finding another spike in complaints about the so-called “Grandparents Scam” where someone calls an older person, typically a woman, claiming to be a grandchild in trouble and asking for money or gift cards.
Police say anyone getting a call should engage the caller in conversation to try to identify that the voice is actually from their relative. Residents are also encouraged to ask for a call-back number and then contact other family members to try to confirm information from the caller.
Anyone getting suspicious calls asking for money should contact their local police.
