Governor Reports Possible COVID Apex While Upstate Braces For Surge

While Governor Andrew Cuomo says he believes New York State may be “at the apex” for the coronavirus pandemic, "Upstate" communities and healthcare systems are bracing for their own surge in cases while the numbers downstate stabilize.

Broome County reports currently 144 positive coronavirus cases, an increase of five from the previous briefing. There have been 8 deaths.  Chenango has 3 new cases for a total of 68.  Cortland County had two new cases for a total of 22, Delaware County reports 55 positive cases while Tioga County lists 31 coronavirus positives.

Pennsylvania shows 25,345 confirmed coronavirus patients and 584 deaths.  Bradford County lists 19 coronavirus cases and no deaths. Susquehanna has 32 cases with one death and Wayne County’s last report was 70 cases and one death.

Officials in the Twin Tiers continue to tout the effects of social distancing, travel restrictions and other steps to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.  All agree that backing off on those efforts too soon would be a mistake and possibly lead to another large spike in infections.

Governor Cuomo says the worst thing that could be done is to reopen business too soon and back off on the distancing measures that have been successful for holding COVID-19 at bay.
