Speaking on the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Thompson says there has been a flurry of activity with the Fill the Bus campaign at area Wegmans Supermarkets, dozens of corporate executives and volunteers packing nutritional food for the backpack program to tide children over through school holidays and snow days, and new educational ventures to address poverty and other sources of food insecurity.

Thompson says she has even been given a public television series to talk to elected officials, residents and service agencies about poverty in "Chasing the Dream".  That series is now in its second season.

The Food Bank of the Southern Tier works with partner agencies like the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) and others in Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins Counties in providing emergency food assistance through pantries and soup kitchens, hosting education programs and working on legislative initiatives addressing poverty and its underlying causes.
