First Residents to Move Into JC Apartment Complex Next Month
Construction of a 24-unit apartment building in Johnson City is nearing completion.
The $6.2 million "LOFTS@JC" project is being developed at Grand Avenue and Sherman Street, a short distance from the Binghamton University health sciences campus.
A building at the site that had housed a series of grocery and dollar stores over the years was torn down in May 2019.
Developer Praveen Kamath said people will be able to start moving into the new complex on August 23. He expects 15 to 20 students will be among the first residents.
Kamath said the COVID-19 pandemic slowed work on the project. He said construction came to a "dead halt" in March but it resumed in mid-May as the state permitted Phase One reopening in the Southern Tier.
Kamath said the three-story complex will have 54 bedrooms. He said he's "very confident" that the building will soon be fully leased.
