Field Trip Bus Driver Not Ticketed
Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]New York State Police say the driver of a tour bus carrying dozens of western New York 9th graders on a field trip that crashed in Cortland County Monday, November 21 will not face any charges.
Troopers say the driver of the coach was not at fault for the 9:09 a.m. rollover crash on a snow-covered Interstate 81 near Marathon.
The driver and ten children suffered minor injuries when the bus swerved to avoid other spun-out vehicles.
The Covered Wagon Tours bus was carrying 40 children and five adult chaperones from the Pittsford Mendon Schools to New York City for a field trip.
The injured driver and children were treated at Cortland Regional Medical Center and released while the rest of the passengers were taken to the Marathon Civic Center to wait for transport back home. While they waited, officials with the Marathon School District got food from the high school cafeteria as the district was closed for a snow day and fed the Pittsford students.
