Federal Funds Headed to Binghamton Housing Authority to Fight Homelessness

Five million dollars in emergency funding is coming to public housing authorities in the state outside of New York City, with a portion of that earmarked for the Binghamton Housing Authority.

U.S. Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) say the funding is being allocated in the American Rescue Plan.

Binghamton is getting $251,352 while the Ithaca Housing Authority is being given $210,672 to support tenant-based rental assistance for individuals at risk for homelessness.

The largest allocation to so-called “upstate” housing authorities is going to the Rochester Housing Authority, which is set to receive $1,357,608.

In addition to combating homelessness, the funding is aimed at assisting people who are fleeing domestic violence, human trafficking or sexual assault.
