Child Care Desert Areas in Southern Tier Eligible for Funds
New York State is taking applications for funding for new or registered day care programs in “Child Care Deserts” in the state.
$70-million in federal grant funding is available for child care in underserved areas.
According to a child care desert map posted by New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s office, at least four communities in the Greater Binghamton area; Sanford, Conklin, Johnson City and Endicott are ranked high for lack of child care resources.
Grants will help new child care providers build their program, cover start-up and personnel costs, recruit, train and retain staff and support staff in accessing COVID-19 vaccines.
Applicants must complete an online orientation before applying for the grant. Information can be found at the Office for Children and Family Services website.
Applications must be submitted by May 19.
