A town of Colesville man whose son is accused of shooting a New York state trooper has been indicted on an evidence tampering count.

63-year-old David Johnson pleaded not guilty in Broome County court Thursday morning. Judge Joseph Cawley released Johnson on his own recognizance.

34-year-old Jason Johnson is being held on attempted murder and weapon-related charges in connection with the June 9 shooting of Trooper Becky Seager.

Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak said David Johnson was named in a sealed indictment that alleged he destroyed evidence linked to the shooting involving his son.

Korchak said Trooper Seager is still recuperating from her injuries. He said troopers advised him that she is "continuing to make progress."

Jason Johnson remains in Broome County Jail on $500,000 bail.
