Father Charged with Murder in Death of Tioga Infant Girl
An eight-month-old Tioga County girl is dead and her father has been charged with first-degree murder.
Authorities say 25-year-old Cody Franciscovich was found standing naked on Route 17C a short time after his daughter Ruby had been reported missing.
According to New York State Police, a 911 call was received around 7:15 a.m. Sunday.
The family had been staying at the Deep Well Motel in recent weeks. Police were called after Ruby was discovered missing.
Franciscovich was located shortly before 8 a.m. about two-tenths of a mile west of the motel. He directed troopers to a nearby pond, where the girl was found face-down in the water.
A trooper waded into the pond and brought the child to shore where CPR was initiated. Ruby was pronounced dead at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.
Autopsy results were not available Monday afternoon.
Franciscovich is being held without bail. He is expected to appear in Tioga town court Wednesday.
Two other children - ages two and four - who were staying with the family at the motel were turned over to another family member.
