Fatal Head-On Crash in Delhi (Update)

A woman is dead following a collision between a passenger vehicle and a dump truck in Delaware County May 18.

According to Delaware County Sheriff's officials, a car driven by 77 year old Carol Lowell of Delhi veered into the oncoming lane of State Route 10 north of Elk Creek Road shortly before 10 a.m.

The head-on crash sent the dump truck onto its side and in flames while Lowell  was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was able to get out and was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Authorities said Route 10 was closed for several hours while the investigation was underway.

Delaware County Sheriff’s officials say they don’t know why the car swerved into the northbound lane into the path of the LaFever Excavating gravel truck.

The investigation is continuing.
