New York State Police and the Tioga County Fire Investigation Team are investigating the cause of a fire in the Town of Barton in which the owner of the home was found dead.

Authorities say at around 4:37 a.m. Friday, November 16, a fire was reported at a home on Ridge Road in the town of Barton. 

Troopers responded shortly after 6 when the 71-year-old resident of the home was reported missing.  The resident's body was found in the home at around 12:41 p.m.

Authorities say, at this time, fire does not appear to be suspicious.

Firefighters from Spencer, Hallsey Valley, Lockwood and Tioga Center all worked at the scene along with Greater Valley EMS and the Barton Highway Department.
