The owner of a farm in Chenango County is assessing the future of the long-time operation after fire destroyed the barn on Clark Lane in New Berlin, killing hundreds of pigs inside.

Firefighters quickly responded to the report of the blaze at around 1 a.m. April 12 but the barn and most of the animals on the property could not be saved.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Officials have not been able to determine the size of the monetary loss of the livestock and structure to the farmer.
