Lengthy Endicott Traffic Signal Project Nearing Completion
A $1.6 million project to improve two heavily-travelled intersections in Endicott should be wrapped up soon.
Work began last April at two spots on Watson Boulevard - the intersections at McKinley Avenue and at Hayes Avenue.
The antiquated traffic signals at both spots were no longer adequate for current conditions.
Both intersections were reconstructed over the last several months. They've been repaved and new pavement markings have been installed.
While the asphalt and concrete work were completed, there were delays in putting the new traffic and pedestrian signals in place.
A spokesperson for the village last summer said crews would have to wait for the traffic light poles to be delivered. The poles arrived and were erected recently.
The signals were installed but they've remained covered until some other aspects of the project are completed.
Workers now are installing signage at the intersections. The signals could be put into operation in the next few days.
The intersection reconstruction work was done by Bothar Construction of Binghamton. The new signals are being installed by Binghamton Road Electric.
Next year, another traffic signal replacement project is planned in Endicott, That work will be at the intersection of Watson Boulevard and Oak Hill Avenue.
