Although the cause of a fatal fire in Endicott remains under investigation, authorities have released the identity of the person who died as a result of the blaze.

According to village police chief Patrick Garey, the victim of the fire at 100 Taylor Avenue has been identified as June Kimble.

Property records show Kimble acquired the property in April 2020.

The Broome County coroner's office ruled the cause of Kimble's death was smoke inhalation.

A police department news release indicates authorities have determined that the fire was not the result of a criminal act or suspicious in nature. The "specific cause of fire origin remain under investigation."

The fire at the two-story house on Taylor Avenue just north of Watson Boulevard was reported around 8:25 a.m. Wednesday by a neighbor who noticed smoke coming from the second floor.

Firefighters found Kimble's body lying in a bed. The blaze was confined to her bedroom. It was brought under control after about 15 minutes.

Other sections of the house sustained smoke and water damage.
