The Village Police Department has launched the new #9PMRoutine initiative that sends out reminders at 9 every night via social media telling residents to lock up vehicles and homes to avoid being victims of crime.

On the Police facebook page, resident are advised to “remove valuables from your vehicle, ensure car doors are locked with windows up, turn on exterior lights—make thieves visible!” And “make sure all windows and exterior doors are locked-including garage!”

Police say most thefts from vehicles and burglaries happen when the vehicle, residence or garage are unlocked.
