October 26 marks the start of early voting for the first time in New York.  Balloting takes place through Sunday, November 3.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says the eight days of early voting makes it more convenient for residents whose professional or family obligations make it difficult to physically get to the polls.

In Broome County, polls are at the Broome County Public Library, near the former Sears at the Oakdale Mall and the George F. Johnson Memorial Library in Endicott.  In Broome County.

The voting hours are:

October 26 & 27 are noon to 5 p.m.

October 28  from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

October 29 from noon to 8 p.m.

October 30 from noon to 8 p.m.

October 31 (Halloween) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

November 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

November 2 and 3 from noon to 5 p.m.

Voting in Tioga County is in the Board of Elections Building at 1062 Route 38 in Owego.

Hours in Tioga County are:

October 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

October 27 from noon to 5 p.m.

October 28 from noon to 8 p.m.

October 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

October 30 from noon to 8 p.m.

October 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

November 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

November 2 and 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Check with your local board of elections for your voting locations and hours.

The early voting works just like it does at the regular polling site but the site has an electronic poll book instead of a paper book.  You still have to sign in before you are handed your ballot for your town and district.  You mark your choices and put the ballot in the scanning box to be counted.

Remember, once you early vote, you can’t change your mind over the next eight days and vote again. The General Election is November 5.
