The Broome County Stop DWI Program says the holiday drunk driving crackdown and checkpoints and patrols are in place for the long holiday weekend.

Law enforcement agencies across the county are out through September 4th to crack down on drunk driving.

Stop DWI crackdowns happen during several periods through the year organized by the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation, funding from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and National Highway Safety Administration.

Officials advise people to have a plan to stay alive and if they plan on drinking to download the free STOP-DWI Have a Plan mobile app at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp, consider having a sober ride to the destination so there is no option to drive themselves later, pace drink intake and if someone appears impaired and is about to drive.. take their keys and help them make safe travel arrangements.
