Drugs Taken Back at Several Broome County Sites
Several locations around Broome County April 30 will be open specifically to get unwanted medications out of the potential of causing harm to people or the environment.
As part of National Shed the Meds drug take-back day, residents can drop off prescription or over the counter drugs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Broome County Health Department on Front Street near Clinton Street in the First Ward of the City of Binghamton.
Collection sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Broome Sheriff’s Office on Lieutenant Van Winkle Drive at the South entrance to SUNY Broome Community College, the Johnson City Elks Lodge on Watson Boulevard in Johnson City, UHS on the Vestal Parkway, the Sheriff’s Deposit Substation or fire departments in Whitney Point on Main Street, West Windsor on Karla Drive and West Endicott on North Page Avenue.

The locations are accepting anything from aspirin to controlled substances, including sharps.
The Broome County Health Department says Deterra Drug Deactivation Bags and Rx Lock Boxes will be available while supplies last.
The regular collection of the drugs helps to keep substances from getting into the wrong hand as well as helping the environment through proper disposal instead of having the medications thrown into the landfill or flushed down the drain into the water system, polluting rivers.
