Hundreds of supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders showed up in downtown Binghamton early Monday for a town hall meeting hosted by the Democratic presidential candidate.
Doors at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena opened at 7 a.m.
Ilze Dempsey of Johnson City said she and her husband, Patrick, arrived downtown at 2 a.m.
Dempsey said she was excited that a Sanders campaign event was being held in Broome County. She said: "This is awesome."
The two city-owned parking garages downtown filled quickly. City officials had urged people attending the event to use free parking at the NYSEG Stadium lot on Henry Street.
Sanders was scheduled to hold a rally at the University at Buffalo following the Binghamton town hall meeting.
