Two dogs were killed when fire broke out in the basement of a home in Vestal.

Authorities say the blaze at 128 Hazel Drive was reported shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Most of the fire damage was confined to the basement of the house. Fire department officials say other parts of the home sustained smoke and water damage.

Although no people were injured, authorities said two dogs died as a result of the blaze.

Vestal firefighters received assistance from neighboring departments after a second-alarm was called.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
