Dick’s House of Sport Store to Open at Future JC Oakdale Commons
Dick's Sporting Goods plans to operate a massive "House of Sport" concept store at the former Oakdale Mall in Johnson City.
The 140,000-square-foot location would be the largest of the company's new "House of Sport" sites.
Dick's Sporting Goods executive chairman Edward Stack announced the project on Thursday. It will be located where the Macy's department store had operated on the south end of the mall off Harry L Drive.
The store in the future Oakdale Commons will feature an indoor climbing wall, batting cages and a glass elevator.
Outdoor amenities will be part of the House of Sport complex with a turf field that also will be used as a skating rink during the winter.
Construction workers have been busy inside the old Macy's store in recent weeks gutting the space in preparation for the Dick's Sporting Goods project. The new store is expected to open sometime next year.
Dick's Sporting Goods was started by Dick Stack on Binghamton's East Side in 1948. The company, which is headquartered in the Pittsburgh area, now operates several hundred stores.
