The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has 32 new hooves on the ground for law enforcement.  Eight members of the Sheriff’s Office have graduated from the Equine Mounted Police School.

This is the second group of officers to graduate from the academy and join the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

Among other skills, the horses and their partners were exposed to what were called “desensitizing activities” such as loud noises, explosions, flashing lights, gunfire, smoke and flares.

The horses and riders will serve in crowd control as well as search and rescue assignments.

Sheriff-Elect Craig DuMond’s wife, Karleen owns and operates Golden Gait Farm in Masonville and donated the facilities, horses and instruction services.
