Delaware County Man Accused of Beating Dog

A Delaware County man is accused of beating a dog in the Town of Meredith in December.

Sheriff’s officials say 23-year-old William Merrill of Delhi is charged with over-driving, torturing and injuring animals.  He’s been ordered to appear in Town of Meredith Court at a later date.

Sheriff Craig DuMond issued a statement objecting to Merrill’s released on an appearance ticket for the misdemeanor count.  DuMond said an appearance ticket only provides an offender the opportunity to “continue to prey on the innocent.”

The news release did not reveal the status of the dog that was reportedly beaten.
