Customers Shocked to Find Apalachin Perkins Restaurant Closed
People in Apalachin were surprised to see the lights out and no cars in the parking lot at the Perkins Restaurant and Bakery on Route 434.
The restaurant and the adjacent Comfort Inn hotel were closed Tuesday morning. A husband and wife from Nichols said they had never dined at the Perkins restaurant and were disappointed to see it wasn't open.
A handwritten sign at a restaurant entrance advised would-be diners the business was "Closed for Tonight" but there was no explanation.
There were no signs at the hotel indicating why the place was not operating. Those who tried to contact the businesses by phone for most of the day encountered recordings stating their call didn't go through.
Eventually, both the Perkins restaurant and the Comfort Inn opened Tuesday afternoon.
Employees reached by phone said the businesses had closed Monday evening because of a power problem.
Although they were not able to provide details about what caused the trouble, they said the restaurant and hotel were able to resume operations around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
