The Democrat this week said making the New York “Buy American Act” permanent will be part of his annual State of the State message next month.

Any contracts worth more than one-million dollars in New York State would have to use structural materials coming from the United States.  The current law is due to expire in April of 2020.

Governor Cuomo said not only does the Buy American measure protect U-S jobs but helps ensure the safest, best quality steel and iron are used in infrastructure projects in the Empire State.

The Act requires the Department of Transportation, Office of General Services, State University of New York Construction Fund, Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, Thruway Authority and other agencies to include a contract provision requiring the use of domestic steel and iron.
