Work is underway to fix a potentially hazardous condition at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Crews can be seen chipping away at sections of concrete on the stairs on the north side of the 40-year-old structure.

The stairway leads from the street to the concourse level of the Arena.

In recent months, the condition of the stairway had deteriorated and several broken concrete sections were marked with orange paint.

When contacted Tuesday by WNBF News, Arena manager Anthony Capozzi said he was not authorized to discuss the planned work at the facility or how long it would last.

Capozzi said he would seek permission to be interviewed but he has since been unavailable to comment on the project.
