A town of Cortlandville resident faces felony charges for allegedly helping himself to natural gas without paying for it.

Authorities say 30-year-old Bryan Howe of McGraw was arrested Sunday following a traffic stop.

A NYSEG representative had reported the matter to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

According to the utility, Howe modified NYSEG meters and piping to continue using gas since 2018 for free.

Howe was charged with grand larceny, criminal mischief and theft of services. He was ordered to appear in Cortlandville town court on March 31.
