Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say they have arrested a Town of Solon man on accusations he sexually abused a child last year. 

30-year-old Jason Riley was arrested October 2 and charged with felony Criminal Sexual Act in the Third Degree, which is a Class E Felony and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child in connection with alleged sexual contact with a juvenile between the months of June and September of last year.

According to a news release from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, Investigators were called on to look into a report of a sex abuse incident in the Town of Solon. 

Authorities say their investigation revealed that the Defendant, Jason Riley had inappropriate sexual contact with a child over the four months of the summer of 2021.  The news release does not reveal if there was one or several alleged incidents of inappropriate sexual contact during the months between June and September of last year. 

According to the Sheriff’s Office account, the authorities applied for an Arrest Warrant for the Criminal Sex Act and child endangerment in the Town of Solon Court. 

On Sunday, October 2, Riley was arrested on the warrant. 

He was taken to Central Arraignment and formal charges were filed at 10 a.m. Monday, October 3.  Following his arraignment, Riley was released on his own recognizance.

The Sheriff’s office says the next court date for the Cortland County man has been scheduled for the evening of October 26.  At that time, Riley is due to appear in Solon Town Court. 

A conviction for Criminal Sexual Act in the third Degree carries a possible sentence of up to four years in New York State prison.
