Construction Project Detours Traffic Around UHS Wilson Hospital

Motorists in Johnson City are using alternate routes to avoid a project now underway at the Wilson Medical Center campus.

The work is affecting through traffic on Baldwin Street between Main Street and Corliss Avenue.

A United Health Services spokeswoman said a new emergency generator is being connected to the main hospital building.

The generator is on the north side of the Gateway Building on Baldwin Street. Connecting lines are being installed beneath the street leading the the hospital.

The work initially was scheduled to be wrapped up this month but the project now is expected to be completed in late October.

Baldwin Street is open for limited two-way traffic to maintain access to Wilson's emergency department. Traffic is being controlled by temporary signals on both sides of the work zone.
