Some residents near Chenango Valley State Park or passing motorists recently may have noticed some unusual activity at the land in the Town of  Fenton but have nothing to be concerned about.

Members of the Civil Air Patrol from throughout New York State participated in a state-wide training exercise to hone skills needed to respond in case of an emergency.

The drill at State Park involved 20 members of the South Central Group Ground Team in a simulated missing camper scenario.

20 members took part in the training.

Cadets can join the Civil Air Patrol at the age of 12 and adult leaders can join at the age of 18.

Cadets learn leadership skills, military customs, drill, aerospace and search and rescue procedures.
