City of Binghamton Announces Boys & Girls Club Funding

The City of Binghamton will be providing funding for several youth programs at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton. Binghamton Mayor Richard David and Marybeth Smith, the Executive Director for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton made the announcement on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by Mayor David, "Given recent uncertainty and concern at other local youth organizations, it was important to reaffirm the City's commitment to the Binghamton Boys and Girls Club and the youth it supports."

According to details outlined in a press release from Binghamton City Hall close to $95,000 is earmarked for various programs at the Club.  $50,000 will go to the After-Hours Program which extends the hours of the center to 11 PM on Fridays and Saturdays year round.  The Club usually closes at 7:00 PM.

$20,000 goes to the Teen Center which offers youth paid work experience and hands-on job training.  Also included is tutoring and homework assistance.

$19,975 will benefit the Summer Program Membership Plan.  This provides funding for low-income youth to attend a nine-week summer program.  Activities included in the program are swimming, field trips, baseball, educational programs and lunch.

$5,000 will be used to provide Building Security Upgrades.

According to the release the City of Binghamton is utilizing Community Development Block Grant funds for these projects.  Since 2014 Binghamton has allocated more than $340,000 to programs at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton.
