Chenango Forks Student Turns Himself in For Prank
A Chenango Forks High School student has turned himself in to authorities for a school-clearing prank on June 7 that alarmed students, parents, staff and neighbors.
18 year old Alex Vandermark allegedly entered the high school after midnight, disguised in dark clothing and wearing a skeleton mask. He is believed to have released hundreds of crickets and the school-owned chinchilla in classrooms as an intended end of year prank. He's also accused of smearing rubber cement on several chairs and locks.
That morning, a teacher noticed an unlocked door and a review of surveillance film revealed a dark figure, carrying a bag, going from classroom to classroom. Students and staff in all district building were sent home as a precaution.
Vandermark is charged with burglary. He was released on his own recognizance to await his next court date.
