Residents of Chenango County now have a new way to connect with the sheriff's office.

The agency's smartphone application is designed to provide information quickly and efficiently.

Sheriff Ernest Cutting said he believes the app will improve his office's ability to communicate with the public. He said important public safety information will be released to residents as quickly as possible.

The mobile phone app was developed by an Alabama-based software company called OCV, LLC. The firm provides apps to law enforcement and other emergency agencies.

Cutting said the Chenango County app will allow users to submit a tip and to read agency news releases. Instant push notifications also will be available through the app.

More information about the app is available on the Chenango County Sheriff's Office website.
