The unofficial voting tally after the polls closed on election night showed Meaney leading by nine votes. A new count released a week later showed Charuk ahead by 13 votes.

In a statement issued Thursday afternoon, Charuk said she's "excited to get to work." She said she is looking forward to working with the board of trustees and village departments to serve Johnson City.

Johnson City mayor-elect Christina Charuk's statement:

I’m truly grateful and proud to have earned your trust in this election. Winning by 11 votes is a beautiful reminder that every neighbor, every voice, and every hope for our village matters.

I’m excited to get to work. I look forward to partnering with the Board of Trustees and our village departments to serve Johnson City.
Our best days are ahead—because we’ll build them together.

The day prior to the recount, Charuk and Meaney told WNBF News they had not spoken with each other since Election Day.
