Catholic Charities To Host Backpack Giveaway Event in Nichols, NY

Study after study has indicated that when a student has their own school supplies, it translates to better grades and better behavior in the classroom. Having their own school supplies also helps to pump up the child and get them excited about learning.

For many parents in our community, back-to-school season floods them with dread as they realize that they don't have the financial means to buy their child all of the school supplies that they need and it really shouldn't be this way.

Catholic Charities understands the struggle that many families in our community face and they are extending a helping hand through a backpack giveaway and back-to-school event on Monday, August 16 at the Tioga Outreach Center, located at 139 Roki Boulevard. in Nichols from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

With help from Stephen Donnelly and Associates, Fidelis, Walmart, and Tioga County Law Enforcement, Catholic Charities will be handing out backpacks filled with school supplies such as notebooks, rulers, notebook paper, pocket folders, pens, pencils, and more.

In addition to the free backpack giveaway, free haircuts for kids will be offered from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Food will be provided by Jackpot Richie’s Chicken BBQ and by Nichols Cafe and Community Kitchen.

There will also be vendors set up and each will have information for parents and students to help them start the 2021-2022 school year on a positive note. Healthcare providers will also be present including Molina and Fidelius and will be available to discuss child healthcare options with parents and guardians.

Also present at the Catholic Charities backpack giveaway and back-to-school event will be the American Red Cross which will be hosting a blood drive for anyone who would like to make a blood donation.
