Byrne Dairy Project Progresses in Endicott
Plans for a new convenience store at the site of a former Friendly’s restaurant in Endicott can move another step forward.
The Village board has approved an amendment to its tobacco sales regulations that prohibited stores that sell cigarettes and other tobacco items from locating near a school.
Mayor Linda Jackson says the change allows the sales but prohibits advertising, which could entice minors. The amendment will allow Byrne Dairy to take a step forward with plans for a store located 286 feet from Jennie F. Snapp Middle School property.
The Village will still be able to review applications and issue tobacco licenses under individual case review.
While the tobacco regulation issue has been addressed, the developers still have to acquire other permits and file necessary environmental assessments on the property.
