The first Bryne Dairy & Deli store in the Binghamton area will open in a few weeks.

Company vice president Christian Brunelle said the opening date for the new Endicott store will be May 25.

The Byrne Dairy convenience store at 301 East Main Street is located on the site of a former Friendly's restaurant which closed in April 2019. The property at the corner of East Main Street and Loder Avenue was sold for $600,000 last fall.

Excavation work at the site began in late October and the abandoned restaurant building was demolished in November.

The new Byrne Dairy building was constructed over the last few months. Gas pumps have been installed and paving of the parking lot began on Thursday.

Brunelle said "we're ahead of schedule" in preparing for the opening of the company's first Broome County store.

Many of the store's first employees have been hired and are currently being trained.

Byrne Dairy has proposed opening two more convenience stores in the Binghamton area. One would be located at the site of a former supermarket at 3100 East Main Street in Endwell. The other is to be built on Route 11 in Whitney Point.

Brunelle said Byrne has no plans to open other stores in the Binghamton area at this time.

According to its website, the company now operates 63 store in upstate New York.
